Use these tips for left turns that require you to stop first.
- Turn on your left turn signal well before you turn.
- Check your mirrors.
- Remember to always look over your shoulder to check your blind spot.
- Use controlled braking.
- Stop at the legal point, which is the stop line, cross walk or imaginary line extending from the stop sign.
- Search the intersection for vehicles, pedestrians and potential hazards. Turn your head in the direction of the turn before turning the steering wheel.
- Use light acceleration and begin your turn.
- Straighten the car and gradually accelerate to the proper speed.
- Check your rearview mirror as you complete your turn.
